Our Favorite Sunglasses!

June 27th was National Sunglasses Day!

Do you have a favorite pair of Sunglasses?  We asked our staff to choose their favorites from among the thousands of Sunglasses in our showroom.

Stewart – “My favorite sunglasses would have to be the Cartier rimless sunglasses I have. They are extremely lightweight and comfortable.”

Cartier Rimless Sunglasses with Polarized Lenses & Flash Mirror

The lens shape I am able to change every time I have my prescription updated so the shape of the lens is always current in terms of style.

I always have my sunglass lenses polarized because polarization eliminates distracting glare and provides clarity especially when I drive. Polarized lenses cut glare from reflective surfaces such as roads and water.

Mirror coating is also quite fashionable so I decided to have my sunglass lenses with a flash mirror on them.

Nenita – “Many people start with shoes or a top to set the tone for an outfit, but for me, my outfit inspiration starts with my sunglasses.”

Tortoise Shell Prada Sunglasses

Sometimes my sunglasses are the focal point of my look, while other times my sunglasses provide the finishing touch for my outfit.

I love putting on a good pair of high quality lenses wrapped in stylish frames and walking out side on a sunny day looking good and seeing well.

I chose my sunglasses carefully to make sure they’re comfortable, stylish, and functional. My favorite pair of sunglasses are tortoise shell Pradas because they have a very unique design.  I enjoy how vivid the world looks through their polarized lenses, and feel good taking care of my eyes with strong UV protection the Prada sunglasses provide.

It’s National Sunglasses Day!

Summer is here, and out comes the sunscreen to protect us from the harsh sun that can cause painful sun burn. We can’t put sunscreen in our eyes but we can wear our UV A and B polarized sunglasses to protect our eyes from the harmful Ultra-Violet Rays.
.
Today we worry a lot about the sun causing premature wrinkles from sun damage. The same sunlight that burns your skin also enters your eyes through the pupil and causes harm to your intra-ocular lens and retina. Consequently, cumulative sun exposure starting from childhood through adulthood can contribute to early cataract and macular degeneration. If you have taken preventive measures to limit your sun exposure early on in life by wearing sunglasses, then you’ve delayed and minimized the chances of having early cataracts or macular degeneration. Kudos to you!!
 .
It is never too early or too late to wear sunglasses. If we spend so much money on special anti-aging creams and skin lotions to defy aging, we should really invest in a good pair of sunglasses for eye protection.
.
Here are a few interesting facts:
.
  • People living closer to the equator have a higher incidence of cataracts because the sun is closer to earth.  Therefore, UV exposure is higher.
  • Similarly, living at higher altitude exposes you to higher UV levels light.
  • At the beaches or on the snow slopes, we get sun from above but also from sunlight bouncing off the sand or snow into our eyes, thus giving us a double dose of UV light.
  • Kids are especially more at risk for too much UV light because kids have larger pupils than adults. Larger pupils among children can easily mean receiving three times Uv light compared to adults 40 of age. Additionally, kids tend to spend more time outdoors than adults who are indoors working. Remember; it is never too early to wear sunglasses.
  • The best sunglasses are the polarized polycarbonate lenses with a backside Anti-Reflective (“AR”) coating.  Maui Jim and Oakley brands are some of the better sunglasses. The larger the frame, the more protection. You do not want to have too much of a gap between your face and the sunglasses. The greater the gap, the more sunlight is creeping through. Don’t have the sunglasses too close to your face either as you may start fogging your lenses.
  • The best sunglasses not only depend on the quality of the sunglasses, but also on how they fit on your face. So choosing a pair of sunglasses from a magazine or internet will never be as good as trying a pair with the guidance of an optician.

Giving the Gift of Sight to Hundreds of Children Worldwide

The doctors at Linden Optometry P.C. are stepping forward to help eliminate one of the leading causes of vision impairment worldwide – uncorrected refractive error – simply the need for an eye exam and glasses.

With each pair of eyeglasses purchased by patients in May and June 2016, Linden Optometry will make a donation to their partner charity, Optometry Giving Sight, to support an international fundraising program called I Care & Share.

“The injustice of being unable to see clearly in our world today, simply due to lack of an eye exam and glasses, is completely unacceptable,” said Alan Limfat, O.D., C.E.O. of Linden Optometry P.C.  “This is our opportunity to make a difference and to help give sight – and hope – to millions in need.  Knowing that just a few dollars can provide an eye exam or a pair of glasses in developing countries, where little or no eye care exists, made us realize that our donations can really make a big difference in people’s lives.”

According to Clive Miller, CEO of Optometry Giving Sight, there are over 600 million people around the world who are blind or vision impaired simply because they don’t have access to an eye exam and a pair of glasses.

Mr. Miller said, “through the generous support of optometrists like Linden Optometry P.C. who donate to programs like I Care & Share, we are able to transform lives in many developing communities. Optometry Giving Sight is currently funding programs that focus on the delivery of vision care, training of local eye care professionals and the development of infrastructure such as vision centres to deliver sustainable, affordable eye care services.  Funds are currently directed to communities in Sri Lanka, South and East Africa, Latin America, South East Asia and Indigenous Australia.”

Dr. Alan Limfat O.D., C.E.O. of Linden Optometry P.C., commented: “We are proud of our contribution towards the elimination of global blindness.  In the U.S., we often take access to quality eye care for granted, but is just not the case in many other places.  Our goal is to provide improved vision to hundreds of children throughout the world this year.”

Celebrate National Dumpling Day at Dr. Linden’s Favorite Eateries!

Chinese Dumplings, or “Potstickers”

Taipei and Beijing may think they have the monopoly on great dumplings, but here in “The 626” we have some pretty amazing dumpling houses too.  So to celebrate National Dumpling Day, I’ve put together a list of my favorite dumpling spots.

1. Din Tai Fung (1088 S. Baldwin Avenue, Arcadia, CA)

When it comes to dumplings, most locals immediately think of Din Tai Fung. They use the freshest and highest quality ingredients, which makes up for the expensive prices. I am particularly fond of their fish dumplings – the fish is so fresh you would think it was soft chicken. The variety, however, is very limited. Due to their popularity and overflowing crowds, they built two back to back locations on Baldwin Avenue in Arcadia in order to handle the constant flow of customers.

2. 101 Noodle Express (1025 S. Baldwin Avenue, Arcadia, CA)

On the same street as Din Tai Fung, there are two other places where I have tried the dumplings. 101 Noodle Express has 22 varieties of dumplings. The dumplings are clearly larger than the ones at Din Tai Fung, and there are so many different kinds to choose from. I personally love their hot and sour soup, while my three daughters absolutely adore their delicious beef noodle soup.

3. Dumpling House (921 S. Baldwin Avenue, Arcadia, CA)

The other dumpling place on Baldwin Avenue is Dumpling House. Unfortunately, Dumpling House only has around six different types of dumplings, but the prices are very low and affordable.

4. Mama’s Kitchen (153 E. Duarte Rd, Arcadia, CA)

On Duarte Road, there is a little “hole in the wall” called Mama’s Kitchen. They used to be on Valley Blvd. in San Gabriel but they moved to Arcadia a couple of years ago. Mama’s Kitchen has been around for more than 30 years. The best part is how the don’t use MSG or any other additives for their dumplings, and they use whole-wheat flour to make the dumpling skin. I always feel so healthy eating their dumplings. The dumplings here are delicious, and they have a long list of varieties to choose from. Mama’s Kitchen is a family favorite (my daughters are obsessed with the dumplings). Some of the flavors here are unique, such as pumpkin with mushroom, pork with fennel, and lamb with carrot. The ambiance is not as nice, so I would recommend bringing the dumplings home – perfect for the whole family!

And there you have it!  My four favorite San Gabriel Valley dumpling places.  Why not treat yourself and your family to a night out tonight to celebrate National Dumpling Day?  In fact, why not snap a photo of yourselves enjoying your favorite dumplings, and send it my way?  Post it on the Linden Optometry, P.C. Facebook page so everyone can see it.  And be sure to tell me how your dumplings were the next time you come to see me for an eye exam, or drop me an email, and tell me about your favorite dumpling restaurant!
